The Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni he met with Ugo Rossi, president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, and Arno Kompatscher, number one in that of Bolzano, to talk about the management of wolves and problem bears. The summit led to some interesting conclusions, given that these animals can also be killed without the need for the intervention of the Ministry of the Environment: an opinion from ISPRA will suffice.
A fundamental implementation rule will be approved shortly, with the two provinces of Trentino acquiring greater powers in the hunting field. The explicit request to the government was to support the project, taking a cue from what is already happening in other countries of the European Union. As far as the wolf is concerned, its protection must be taken into account, but also that of the regional agricultural sector and tourism.
With regard to bears, however, the numbers are different and more limited, so much so that the removal has already been authorized in the past for some specimens. Gentiloni has listened to both presidents and will now have to commit to at least ensuring the management of the most problematic cases. L'National Animal Protection Agency (ENPA) he had his say on the summit, expressing concern for these new powers and recalling how wolves and bears are protected species and unavailable assets of the state.
