ANUU Migrators: at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory in Arosio (CO) a specimen of Buzzard was captured and ringed.
On Monday 12 November, a beautiful specimen of Buzzard (Buteo buteo) was captured among the networks of the FEIN Ornithological Observatory in Arosio (CO). It is a bird of prey whose species had already been spotted by the ornithologists of the Arosian green oasis during the monitoring with bird-watching in the nesting season.
It is a large predator, reaching lengths of 50-58 cm, and a wingspan of 110-130 cm. He lives in the woods and hunts in open areas. It mainly feeds on small mammals and birds.
The specimen, ringed after having taken up all the biometric data, was presented with a livery a little different from the usual dark brown: several wing remiges were white. The latest reports of birds of prey, ringed at the FEIN Observatory, were 2 Sparrowhawks and 1 Civetta in September, 1 Sparrowhawk in October and 1, again, in November.
