Wild boar hunting towards the final sprint: Sunday 9st January the teams of the province of Arezzo they will put down their weapons. And the goal of the killing, 5.400 in the Atc1, was already centered in advance. The latest data available for the territorial area that includes Arezzo, Valdichiana, Casentino and Valdarno - updated on Sunday 19 December - indicates 5.382 wild boars killed in suitable areas, plus 128 in non-suitable areas. From here to the conclusion, therefore, the number of killed ungulates is destined to grow well beyond the predetermined quota. The teams are experiencing the final acts of the year which also saw the possibility of hunting in the temporary restocking and capture areas.
After 9 January, when hunting in pursuit is closed, the containment of wild boars that cause so much damage to the countryside, in addition to the dangers to circulation, can only take place with selection hunting and under Article 37 at the request of the owners. Almost six thousand hunters practice wild boar hunting, a species that is now out of control in the territory in terms of number and diffusion. AND there are 83 teams, of which 64 in the territorial area 1 and 19 in the Atc 2 of Valtiberina. Over 5.000 wild boar hunters from the Atc1 (out of the 8.500 total) and 800 from the Atc 2 (out of the 1.100 who practice hunting) shouldering the rifle.
The 2021-2022 season started on 10 October preceded by great anticipation for the need to reduce wild boars in the area. A massive presence with encroachments even in inhabited centers, even in the heart of historic centers such as that of Cortona where a group of wild boars was filmed in a video shot with a mobile phone. Not by chance the abatement bar had been raised by over a thousand units compared to 2020/2021: from 4.500 to 5.400 in Atc1. The teams hunted at a fast pace on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays, and with the third day to choose from three options: first it was only Wednesday the dedicated day, this year Monday or Thursday additional possibilities. Another novelty that the Region wanted to face the emergency was the inclusion of unsuitable areas with particular criticalities.
The number of ungulates present in the Aretino remains unspecified: waiting for general state and regional decisions, the culls by the teams have reduced the number of animals. A bloody, hunting reduction, to be accompanied by stable policies aimed at the containment and distribution of ungulates in the places reserved for them, therefore away from inhabited centers and communication routes where instead they represent real loose mines (Courier of Arezzo).
