THEyear of production 2021 has seen the confirmation of the trend of gradual decline in the number of deaths and injuries during hunting. The number of deaths, filtered by episodes related to illnesses, falls or intentional or unlawful acts, in fact went from 18 in 2017, to 15 in 2019 and to 13 in 2021. Similarly, the number of injured also went from 63 in 2017 to 60 in 2019 it's at 54 in 2021. A lower figure than in 2021 was recorded only in 2020, the year in which the restrizioni linked to the pandemic had greatly reduced hunting activity.
This is what emerges from the analysis made byUniversity of Urbino. Of note is the fact that no deaths occurred among non-hunters, with 17 injured in this case. For the period that goes from 1 September 2021 to 31 January 2022 there were 74 accidents, with 14 victims and 60 injured. Again, the data does not include events caused by illness, falls, intentional acts or episodes of poaching.
In fact, these causes have nothing to do with hunting or are not attributable to the use of weapons. The study also reports the number of accidents encountered during the year involving other outdoor activities, such as hiking (102 dead and 265 injured in 2021, mostly due to falls in cliffs and ravines), bathing (65 dead and 6 injured excluding illness), winter sports (24 dead and 47 wounded) and mountaineering / climbing (32 victims).
