"The protection of Biodiversity and consequently the Environment is the right way to go to save the Planet. There is no biodiversity in a degraded ecosystem and without it there is no habitat, therefore life and future, if not recovering it in a shared way. The important thing is to maintain the right harmony between the various species, so that they do not spread in an abnormal and uncontrolled way, causing damage that requires their containment. This is what the Brothers of Italy MEP expressed Pietro fiocchi, in his speech addressed to the Commissioner for the Environment Virginius Sinkevicius, emphasizing the role of the hunter as sentinel of the Environment.
“One of the tools that the Commission proposes to us, with a series of needs, including, in my opinion, also the containment of surplus species, such as ungulates and wild boars in particular, is offered by the "Farm to Fork" Strategy that fully marries the protection of biodiversity, provided that it is read in the correct spirit and is not a way to impose certain food choices and behaviors . Responding to Mr Flacchi, Commissioner Sinkevicius said: "Like ranchers, farmers, foresters and others, responsible hunters also play their role.
Also affected by the loss of biodiversity, they certainly contribute to the reconstruction of healthy ecosystems, but all of this must be in line with European legislation ”. I am satisfied with the answer that Sinkevicius gave me, to whom I will soon ask for a meeting, but above all for the fact that it is the first time that a European Commissioner for the Environment recognizes the importance of the figure of the hunter for the protection of biodiversity and the ecosystem.
