As disclosed by the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in Stelvio National Park deer hunting has begun, a levy aimed at regulating the density of ungulates, based on the provisions of the five-year program. The figure continues to be quite high, despite the withdrawals made so far. The plan, which covers the period between the 2017 and the 2021, made use of some experts who quantified the hunting activity.
The number of deer will be reduced in such a way as to restore the ecological balance, with particular attention toimpact on the agricultural sector and on the renewal of the forest. ISPRA's opinion was positive, without forgetting the same assessment by the Ministry of the Environment. On October 31, however, there was approval from the provincial administration. The plan concerns the South Tyrolean sector of the Park and the sampling will last now until the next 20 December.
Organization and coordination are the responsibility of the Provincial Park Office, as well as specially trained specialists. As pointed out by Richard Theiner, provincial councilor (Department of development of the territory, environment and energy), this is not a normal hunting activity, but a regulated levy, useful for continuity in the game management.
