La Province of Bolzano implemented the plan relating to the deer management within the Stelvio Parkwhile approving the criteria for determining compensation for damage caused by wildlife. With the changes in the bodies called to supervise and coordinate activities, the Provincial National Park Office was also born. Some issues, however, are always of general interest and one of these is precisely the plan for the management and conservation of ungulates: it has a total duration of five years and was approved in 2012, while the deadline is scheduled for the end of 2017.
The document was implemented on the proposal of Richard Theiner, provincial councilor for the environment. The framework law imposes a ban on introducing weapons into the park, but in this case some provisions have been made exemptions with selective withdrawals and abatements, deemed necessary for ecological balance. There will be surveillance of authorized persons and it has also been decided what sanctions to impose in case of infringements.
All those who knock down at least will be excluded two lactating females, but also in case of failure to report, culls of male crowned deer and use of leaded ammunition. As regards the damage caused by bears, wolves and lynxes, the Hunting and Fishing Office will be competent.
