The justice of the peace Carlo Francesco Tombolini Montessori has annulled 19 penalties for as many hunters who in October 2020 had seen themselves fined by two agents of the carabinieri station of Camugnano (province of Bologna). The news caused a lot of discussion especially among fans of hunting in the area, also because at the base of the wrong reporting it seems there were a series of personal spicies. At the center of the story is the local team of beltlai called 'Il Grifo delle Torbole' which gathers people living in the municipalities of Castel di Casio and Camugnano. Normally this group would prepare its killing joke with a convivial party, banned in that period of 2020.
More generally, gatherings in closed spaces were also prohibited, but as the group's headquarters were large enough, the meeting was hosted there. While the belt-makers were deciding how to organize the joke, the inspection arrived: even though all participants wore masks, a report had been sent to the prefecture for the appropriate measures. The reporting then led to 21 fines of around 400 euros and if 2 hunters preferred to pay the reduced penalty, the others were not there and started the legal battle by contacting the lawyer Marta Evangelisti.
In accepting the appeal, the justice of the peace considered that this meeting was indispensable for the manner in which the wild boar hunting, also given the various regulations in this regard. The local hunters were, therefore, exercising an activity permitted by the Region, even in time of Covid, a hunting activity which was also necessary, especially in that period, as the previous suspension of the practice of hunting, had significantly increased the number of wild boars throughout the mountain, even reached inside the inhabited centers. The damages were significant and continue to keep the debate open (Il Resto del Carlino).
