La hare hunting in the territory ofSingle Atc of Brescia closed on November 19th. As established by the hare harvesting plan also approved by the Regional Territorial Office of via Milano in September, since 80% of the expected animals, 3500, have not been reached by the date of 18th November. The ban on hunting this game does not automatically imply a ban on the use of the follow-up dog, the hounds, which can be used until 8 December. With this practice, the Single Atc, on the basis of the cards returned by the hunters themselves, tries to safeguard part of the hare population present on the provincial territory.
Wild animals already accustomed to our territory will presumably be more prolific in reconstructing the populations that will in any case be integrated by hares captured in some very specific areas, such as the two airports and by repopulation subjects imported from abroad that will be introduced towards the end of the year. It is clear that if ours Zrc were able to provide abundant catches, the situation could improve significantly. The ATC is working hard to improve conditions within the catch areas, increasing the funds available to farmers and owners to recreate an environment more suitable for reproduction.
Furthermore for this year there are no catches in the Zrc precisely to allow the reconstitution of important populations. There is nothing easy in a territory like ours characterized by intensive agriculture, from an extreme presence of roads and an out-of-control consistency of invasive wildlife, foxes, crows, magpies and so on and so forth. But all this must not discourage the hunting world, especially the world of fans of this type of hunting. It serves commitment and seriousness in the management of restocking and capture areas which must begin with respect for them, establishing ever closer and continuous relationships with farmers.
Respecting the Zrc also means avoiding any type of dog training within them with the aim of respecting the animals, don't put them under stress and eventually push them on the roads. In this regard, the data collected in two years of experimentation of the Lepre Project funded by the Single Atc which saw about sixty hares be equipped with radio collars are being processed. They were followed up on a weekly basis in their behavior, movements and the causes of death when it occurred were analyzed. The results of this extraordinary project, financed by Federcaccia Lombardia in other 4 provinces, will be used to remodel our work of managing this wild which today is one of the most sought-after prey by hunters. Once again, the reasoning of not leaving it to others applies solving our problems but to rely on our skills and our commitment (FIDC Brescia-Cacciapensieri).
