An urgent request
A national plan for wild species should be implemented immediately with attention to the sudden overpopulation of Lupo. It is increasingly necessary to build a new man-nature balance, to protect the livestock sector and rural communities, as well as to safeguard the faunal peculiarities of the territories. Thus the national president of CIA-Agricoltori Italiani, Cristiano Fini, intervening in support of the Braga interpellation and re-launching the appeal to the ministers of Agriculture, Lollobrigida, and of Health, Schillaci, for contrasting and prevention interventions.
The woods of all Italy
“We are in a situation of full emergency -comments the president of CIA, Fini-. With about 3300 wolves populating the woods throughout Italy and almost 9 head of cattle preyed on every year, it is necessary to move from words to deeds. In particular, it is necessary to speed up research and sampling to deal with the phenomenon of wolf-dog hybridization in a limited and timely manner and to provide the country with more suitable management tools and measures".
A liability action
“The protection of an animal species - recalls Fini- must also take into account the sustainability of farms, especially sheep and goats, which see their flocks constantly under attack and companies still without adequate compensation. Apart from rhetoric, neither positions of extreme protectionism nor of unrealistic eradication help. Rather, as the CIA has been asking for for some time - concludes the national president Fini - Law 157/92 needed to be reformed. Doing so would be a serious action of responsibility both in respect of the environment and wild animals, and towards breeders and farmers, true guardians of the territory” (Source CIA).
