A story that holds court in the media
The story of the tragic death of Andrea Papi, the 26-year-old attacked and killed by a bear in the woods of Caldes, in Trentino, is inevitably unleashing a flood of statements and comments of all kinds. The honorable Barbara Mazzali, fresh Councilor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Fashion of the Lombardy Region, wanted to have his say on the matter with the usual lucidity that characterized his interventions.
The words of the Hon. Mazzali
These are the words ofFdI representative"The loss of a young life always brings me sorrow and pain. Right now I think of the parents of Andrea, the Trentino boy found dead after leaving home to do a simple workout, to whom I express my condolences. The story, however, makes me even more angry because the cause of death is an attack by a bear. My questions are: but since when is a human life worth less than that of a wild animal? How long will mountain people have to live in fear that events like this will affect them and their community? At this moment in which man has understood that to feel good he needs to experience moments outdoors, immersed in nature, is it ever conceivable that he must do so with the fear of risking his life?".
The question of large carnivores
Mazzali he added: "The return of large carnivores such as wolves and bears to our territories probably had to be reasoned from a social and not just an environmental point of view. Because if one day people abandon their mountains and tourists no longer want to support mountain economies out of fear, will we make a plan for the reintroduction of man?".
