Prefect Vito Danilo Gagliardi presided over on Wednesday 7 July Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security for an in-depth study, among other things, of the issue of the safety of train circulation along the railway lines that cross the provincial territory. In addition to the Chief of Police Carla Melloni and the Provincial Commanders of theArms of the Carabinieri, Col. Giuliano Gerbo, and of the Guardia di Finanza, Col.t.SFP Cesare Maragoni, the Chief Executive Officer of PS Filippo Ferri, for the Lombardy Railway Police Department, and Eng. Luca Cavacchioli, manager of the Italian Railway Network.
The meeting was wanted by the Prefect to examine the measures set up following a recent episode - which occurred at km. 47,737 of the Cremona-Mantua line, in the municipality of Torre de Picenardi - which made it necessary, thanks to the report of a citizen, the interruption of railway traffic due to the subsidence of a localized part of the embankment, probably due to the excavation of rodent mammals. The event also involved a part of the hydraulic work located near the km. 47,737. In this regard, Eng. Cavacchioli represented that the phenomenon, common to the various plain contexts, is constantly monitored and constitutes the subject of continuous company analysis.
Time ago, RFI is engaged in the comparison with the other competent Bodies for the management of the phenomenon which - often involving more than one railway section of the region - has suggested undertake targeted prevention and safety measures. In particular, the Company's technicians are intervening with the installation of metal nets and other rodent protection systems in the so-called railway embankment and containment materials in the critical points, including some falling within the Cremona area, in order to considerably reduce the risks for rail traffic.
At the same time, RFI confirms that the railway infrastructure is systematically monitored through the supervisory and control activities, by qualified personnel, along all the sections concerned and with the use of diagnostic systems, able to detect the parameters of the railway line. The Prefect therefore asked RFI - whose commitment and timeliness he highlighted in interventions and emergency management - to adopt, to the extent of its competence, any further measures useful to avoid that, in the future, episodes potentially capable of constituting a danger to public safety may occur (Source: Oglioponews).
