La Italian Federation of Hunting spoke of the data released in recent days by two environmental associations such as LIPU extension e WWF on poaching in Italy and in the Mediterranean countries. According to LIPU itself, in our country the birds killed or caught illegally every year would be included between 3,4 and 7,8 million. However, the estimates refer to the two-year period 2014-2015 and the Belpaese would be in the company of nations such as Malta, Egypt, Lebanon and Cyprus. In short, environmentalists believe in a situation out of control as regards the contrast of the phenomenon.
The latter should not be underestimated, but Federcaccia wanted to clarify. First of all, it is not a question of actual data, but of a preliminary estimate based on the opinion of ornithologists. The quality of the information, then, was defined as too "variable" by the hunting association. The species considered endangered are sparrow, finch, song thrush, pipit, robin and starling, but the figures are far-fetched. To speak of two to three million finches being illegally culled every year is an exaggeration. How are things really?
FIDC recalled the action plan to counter these illegal killings that Italy has adopted for over a year. The phenomenon of poaching, however, remains difficult to assess, even if the hunting associations are the first to ask for an increase in vigilance to avoid unpleasant episodes. Alarmist campaigns by environmentalists do not help e the only goal seems to be to take it out more against the hunters than with poachers. The hope of the association is that it continues along the path of confrontation and concrete proposals.
