Federcaccia Umbria criticizes the additional boar hunts authorized by the Province of Perugia in January and threatens the hunters' strike.
We learned with alarm the news, alas official, of the provincial determination that authorizes the wild boar hunting teams, of the whole province of Perugia, to carry out four further sweeping hunts during the month of January, in particular on days 19, 20, 26 and 27. Our alarm is justified by the fact that the provincial administration has decided to grant the additional four days to all the teams of the entire territory, without calling either the territorial hunting areas (perhaps only one?) Or, much less , hunting associations, all subjects with whom, on a regional level, precise intervention plans had been agreed.
The fact is even more sensational if we consider that before granting the additional hunts the data produced by the teams during the hunting season were not cross-referenced (data which, as far as we know, exceeded the slaughter plan in many districts), from add to those relating to the culling carried out in private institutions and protected areas with the planned abatement plans, also taking into account the damage to crops recorded in those territories.
It was agreed that at the end of the hunting season the results of the culling plans for the wild boar species should have been verified and then, on the basis of the findings, possibly authorizing additional interventions only in the districts where the culling plan had not been completed.
Instead, in an incomprehensible way, in the absence of the aforementioned findings, the Province has authorized - we repeat, without listening to any hunting associations or ATC - four supplementary measures on the entire provincial territory, moreover in the full period of introduction of the noble sedentary game, in especially hare. Which, obviously, will be an easily imaginable cause of stress for the animals of fresh capture and release on the free territory: not yet owners of the new habitat, they will be disturbed four times by the packs of the hounds.
We invite the Province of Perugia to review this provision, to urgently convene ATC and associations to verify compliance with the plan - also in relation to the damage to crops suffered, and to intervene in a targeted manner only where the plans have not been completed or extensive damage to crops was found.
We also ask that the Province coordinate the hunts according to the repopulation operations, blocking them in the sectors in which it is deemed appropriate to operate and then resume them once the boar hunts are over. In other words, we ask the Province of Perugia for management. What he is doing now does not seem management at all, but a series of personal and improvised initiatives.
In any case, in the event that the Province does not accept our invitation to dialogue, we invite all wild boar, registered with the Federcaccia and not only, to refuse to take part in the jokes in those territories where the teams, correctly, have the abatement plan has been completed, and where no particular crop problems have been encountered.
