The "Sagra del Porcino & Porcello" returns to Caronia (ME) on 21 October 2012; on the table the black pig and the porcini mushrooms of the Nebrodi.
Also this year in Caronia, a small town in the province of Messina located on the Nebrodi mountains at about 1500 meters above sea level, on 21 October 2012, an unmissable event for many gourmets: the traditional "Porcelli e Porcini" festival dedicated to the black pig. , Porcini mushrooms and Nebrodi gastronomy. During the event it will be possible to taste risotto with Porcini, black pig meat, sausage and pork, all obviously accompanied by homemade bread and local red wine.
In autumn in the Nebrodi Park, various food and wine events are organized to taste all the typical products of the place. Caronia (ME) hosts the Porcelli and Porcini Festival every year in October. Promoted and sponsored by the municipality, Porcelli e Porcini is the festival dedicated to the black pig and porcini mushrooms, of which this territory is rich. If there is little to say about porcini mushrooms, the other protagonist of the festival deserves a special note: the pig.
The black pig is characterized by its bristly hair and the crest on the back. It is a rustic and frugal animal, still bred in the wild and which feeds on the vegetation of the undergrowth. Its meat, delicate, exquisite, also contains very high levels of unsaturated fatty acids, thus carrying out an important protective action on the organism.
Caronia, a small town in the province of Messina, rises on the top of two low hills which, at the extreme offshoots of the Nebrodi mountains, slope gently towards the sea. It is the first municipality in the Province of Messina and the third in Sicily by extension, with its 24 thousand hectares of territory, up to 1500 meters above sea level, and is one of the most wooded in Italy.
