Hunting and Fauna: Sardinia, the Regional Prevention Service has banned wild boar hunting in the territory of the Goceano falling within the province of Sassari.
Following the numerous cases of African swine fever, ascertained in wild boars in the Goceano area, the Group of Experts of the Regional Prevention Service has defined the map of the infected areas within which wild boar hunting is prohibited. However, hunting may be authorized by way of derogation in compliance with the provisions of art. 23,24,25 of the DAIS 30/2012 and reported in the 2012/13 hunting calendar.
Companies interested in the exercise of big game hunting in the infected area, which includes the territories of Pattada, Nughedu SN, Bultei, Anela, Bono, Bottidda and Burgos, may request a derogation from the Veterinary Service of the ASL 1 of Sassari which, after consulting the Corps Forestry and Environmental Surveillance, may authorize hunters to hunt wild boar in strict compliance with the health and hygiene regulations intended to reduce the risk of the spread of ASF.
Among the health requirements that hunters must adopt, it is fundamental that relating to the provision of a sample of the spleen and blood of each killed wild boar, which must be delivered as soon as possible to the Veterinary Service of the ASL of Sassari, as well as the compilation of a special form. with the indication of the collection point inside the infected area and of a responsible person.
The Prevention Department of the ASL n.1 also reminds that wild boar meat must be separated individually, identified and stored in the cell until the results of the analyzes are received. Not only that, but viscera and meat not intended for consumption must be treated in a manner aimed at preventing the spread of pestosis viruses. Sampling material and cards will be distributed in the coming days by the Veterinary Service of the Health Authority of Sassari during the information and training meetings scheduled in the municipalities of the territories concerned.
The meetings with hunters will also be an opportunity to bring to their attention the problem of trichinellosis and in general of the health problems that have recently characterized the territory of the Goceano following the ascertainment, both in the wild and in the domestic, of pathologies of interest. zootechnical but above all zoonotic such as tuberculosis and leptospirosis.
The Prevention Department will take the opportunity to point out that the wild boar, as already noted by a study carried out by the IZS of Sassari from 2007 to today, "is more a victim than a person responsible for the contagion of these pathologies" and that in Goceano in particular, the proximity of livestock farms to the municipal pastures, where populations of domestic animals exist in the wild, has determined the contagion of tuberculosis from cattle to wild boar and of African swine fever from domestic pig to wild boar.
