A few days ago the "Animals and environment" table, consisting of various associations whose purpose is the abolition of hunting (LAC, LAV, ENPA and others), declared on its website and informed the Regional policy about its opposition to the proposed amendment of the law on Piedmontese hunting, with particular reference to the part in which it equates the Piedmont Region to the other Italian regions, re-admitting 15 species to hunting the previous regional government had even ruled out by law. A right, that of Piedmontese hunters, trampled on for decades, which today can finally be recognized, bringing with it all the advantages of involving hunters in environmental monitoring and conservation activities.
Obviously we are not surprised by the position of the Table, made up of ideologically anti-hunt acronyms, but instead we were disconcerted by what was produced by the Piedmontese Ornithological Studies Group (GPSO), together with the Piedmontese Naturalistic Association (ANP), which have published on the GPSO website (http://www.gpso.it/…/documento-di-gpso-e-anp-su-modifiche-…/) a document in which they declare themselves opposed to the legislative reform of equating Piedmont with other Italian regions. This document, rather poor in relation to the number of species treated, analyzes with surprisingly improper criteria and with numerous omissions, the status of the species subject to the modification.
Federcaccia Piemonte today publishes the technical responses of the Faunistic and Agro-Environmental Studies and Research Office of Federcaccia Nazionale, a few days ago sent to all Piedmontese Regional Councilors. There are two documents, one of analysis of the GPSO-ANP document, and the other of exposition of international and national sources on the state of the species, with relative bibliography cited. Federcaccia Piedmont, together with the National Offices, will support with numbers, scientific sources and official classifications the right of Piedmontese hunters to collect the same huntable species in the rest of Italy.
