Sport fishing: the world championships in Tuscany will start on 28 August
Eleven years after the success of participation and public obtained with the organization of the 2000 World Games, Tuscany returns to the international fishing scene with the highlight of the 2011 competitive season. Indeed, Tuscany is one of the six regions, together with Lazio, Emilia Romagna, Umbria, Liguria and Trentino Alto Adige, which will host thirteen of the twenty-six trials included in the official program of the third edition of the "Sport Fishing World Championships", the sport fishing world championships that from August 28 to August 4 September 2011 in the waters of the Arno, the Tiber and in the suggestive stretches of the Tuscan coast, will see the best fishermen in the world engaged in various disciplines.
THIS EDITION promises to be with substantial changes compared to the past: for the first time, in fact, the sport fishing World Championships will take place under the banner of 'catch and release', i.e. all the fish, once caught, will be put back into the water. while as regards tuna fishing, the catch before being released into the sea will be marked to monitor its flow in our waters, which represents a real 'environmentalist' turning point undertaken by the federation which is responsible for organizing the great event sport that will see the presence of over five thousand participants, including athletes, technicians, companions, commissioners and race judges, representing 66 nations and over 130 national sports federations.
The World Championships will involve seven Tuscan provinces (Arezzo, Florence, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara and Pisa) and will consist of tests in fresh water and others in the sea. Tuscany will also be the setting for the inaugural ceremony, which will be held in Florence on August 28 at the headquarters of the Visarno racecourse, in the Cascine park.
THE EVENT was illustrated yesterday in the Region by the councilor for agriculture, hunting and fishing Gianni Salvadori; present, among others, the federal president Ugo Claudio Matteoli and the regional president of Coni, Paolo Ignesti. "As the Tuscany Region - said Salvadori - we are happy to host and support this event which falls within the context of the work that we have been carrying out for years to help our children rediscover fishing and the great fluvial and marine heritage of which Tuscany she is rich. This event - added the commissioner - brings together the sporting value but also the environmental and naturalistic one, and certainly also the tourist one, and will bring thousands of people from all over the world to Tuscany ».
Federal President Matteoli then provided some significant numbers: "In Italy there are about one and a half million fishermen, over 100 thousand in Tuscany alone, which is one of the leading Italian regions and which distinguished itself for organization and efficiency even at the World Games of 2000. I am sure that this time too Tuscany will be able to do the same ».
