THEACMA-FIDC yesterday, Friday 20 July 2018, met the managers ofZooprophylactic Institute of the Venezie for an update on the use of live calls in aquatic hunting for next season. The new EU decision in this regard, since the previous one had expired at the end of June, which does not seem to include a general ban onuse of live calls, and mandate EU Member States to act individually in the management of possible new avian outbreaks.
However, among the various measures indicated there is still the suspension of the use of decoy in high-risk areas, except that their use is not part of an avian influenza monitoring and study program, which Member States are required to adopt. Therefore, a preventive ban is no longer envisaged for which, in order to use the calls, a derogation was necessary but its use is allowed, ".. depending on the epidemiological evaluation ...".
For these reasons the FIDC and the ACMA will be activated at the Ministry of Health, so that live calls and the world of hunters are an active part in the monitoring program, and at the same time an intervention protocol is drawn up in the event of outbreaks, which identifies more contained areas of protection and surveillance and with a time limit to the emergency . Thanks to this new and more favorable opening from the European Union, also following the finding that recalls are not a primary viral risk, it is necessary to take action to ensure that measures are adopted in Italy that do not penalize aquatic hunters as happened in the past and at the same time give safety and tranquility to the poultry health and economy.
