In Voltri (GE) a motorist runs over a wild boar but once he gets out of the car he is bitten by the claw and is forced to defend himself with sticks.
Yesterday afternoon in Voltri, in the province of Genoa, a man was returning home along the Via delle Fabbriche with his car when he suddenly crossed the street with an animal. The man was unable to avoid the impact with the animal, a wild boar, and hit him; when the driver got out of the car and approached the animal, thinking it was dead, he was instead attacked.
In fact, the injured boar immediately attacked the man, charging him and biting him in the calf; the motorist was thus forced to defend himself with a stick with which he was able to definitively kill the wild boar that instead of running away was furious against him. This is the umpteenth accident caused by wildlife and in the case of wild boars we speak of a real emergency; according to Piero Fossati, commissioner of the Province of Genoa, to bring the situation back to normal by limiting accidents and damage to agriculture it is necessary to cull 11.000 animals.
In fact, from the hinterland of the city there are numerous reports of devastation caused by wild boars in vegetable gardens, vineyards, olive groves, terraces, but also on the slopes and on the course of the small rivers. Fossati explained, "It is absolutely necessary that the contingent of felling animals set for this season at 11.000 is fully reached, increasing, if the regional hunting calendar allows it, the number of days per week in which hunting is possible, so far only Wednesday and Sunday".
In fact, the Province has been working for some days already, in agreement with the Territorial Areas of Hunting, in order to prepare a provision “which will make it possible to recover the days of wild boar hunting lost due to bad weather no longer on Mondays, but on Saturdays. This is because - specifies Fossati - hunting recovery on Saturdays ensures a greater presence of wild boar drivers, many of whom on Mondays often cannot participate in the hunts due to work commitments. And the measure, like the increase in the weekly hunting days for wild boars, aims to ensure the greatest number of killing to reduce and prevent inconvenience and damage in the area ".
