Hunting: The European Commissioner Potocnik demolishes the requests of the Italian anti-hunts and confirms the correctness of the use of the overlapping decade.
On 18 October, in response to a question from MEP Zanoni, a well-known Italian anti-hunt exponent, the EU Environment Commissioner Potocnik unquestionably clarifies that the hunting calendars issued by the Italian Regions fully respect the Birds Directive both for the duration of the hunting, both for the use of the overlapping decade provided for by the "Guide to the discipline of hunting", and for the limits of game bag established. This ruling constitutes a fundamental act of recognition of the correct work carried out by most of the departments and officials of the Italian Regions and of the line followed by Face Italia, which referred to the Key Concepts and the interpretative guide for the drafting of a calendar proposal. unitary hunting at national level.
The content of Commissioner Potocnik's reply categorically denies the arguments advanced by the Italian anti-hunting world in the repeated appeals to the TAR against the regional hunting calendars, also contradicting Ispra, both in relation to the negative opinion for the use of the decade of overlap, both as regards the limitative proposals to hunting present in the "Guide to hunting calendars" drawn up in 2010 by the same Institute. The Commissioner verbatim states that the hunting seasons currently in force in our country respect the Birds Directive, also thanks to the use of the overlapping decade.
It can therefore be concluded that:
1) The postponement of the opening to XNUMX October, proposed by ISPRA in the Guide to the drafting of calendars for most migratory species, is unfounded under the aforementioned European documents and constitutes only a limiting speculation for hunting.

2) The advance of the closure to 20 or 10 January depending on the species is also unfounded for the same reasons.
3) The requests for a ban on hunting proposed for numerous species are also completely unfounded according to the European Commission.
Once again, it is shown that the choice of the Federcaccia Birdlife Office and Face Italia to use European documents for the drafting of calendars is correct, because it is fully shared by the Environment Commission of the European Union.
Face Italia will therefore immediately take action in all Regions, at the State-Regions Conference and at the competent Ministries so that the correct interpretation of the European Directive on hunting season and calendars is applied as soon as possible, to restore the climate of tranquility and democratic coexistence that the country deserves.
