Poaching and surroundings: Udine, Montenars hunters help the Provincial Police to discover a poacher who placed illegal traps to catch ungulates.
In recent days in Montenars, in the province of Udine, some hunters have denounced the presence, in the woods of the Curminie area next to the sports center, of an illegal trap with metal laces for the capture of ungulates, allowing the Provincial Police to surprise and report the poacher who had placed it. The architects of the discovery of the trap with simultaneous reporting to the Authorities were some hunters from the local Reserve; the trap, like many others of the genus, consisted of a system of metal cord laces well camouflaged among the vegetation used by poachers to capture ungulates such as wild boar, roe deer, deer and fallow deer. In addition, the poacher had previously pastured the area around the trap in order to better attract prey.
Once alerted, the men of the Provincial Police carried out the necessary checks and conducted the investigations which, thanks to the collaboration of the hunters, led to the identification of the poacher who was then denounced on the loose for the accusation of exercising the hunting activity with vehicles prohibited, for having transported out of their home tools for cutting and cutting without justified reason and for the mistreatment of animals.
In fact, the use of laces is a particularly bloody type of poaching as it causes great suffering to the animal that remains imprisoned there because, in an attempt to free itself, it is generally mortally wounded. The agents then proceeded to seize the trap and other equipment found in the possession of the poacher as well as to recover a roe deer imprisoned by the trap set up by the criminal.
Satisfied the Provincial Councilor for Hunting and Fishing of Udine, Marco Quai, who said, “Thanks to the important work of the Provincial Police and the collaboration with hunters it is possible to repress these crimes by bringing the perpetrators to justice. The operation carried out in Montenars is the result of a profitable synergy that I hope will be consolidated and replicated in other areas of our territory to counteract poaching activities with force and firmness ".
