LOMBARDY: REGIONAL COUNCIL APPROVES SUSPENSION HUNTING IN DEROGATION
Green light in the Lombardy Regional Council to the law presented by the Parent Company of the Democratic Greens Carlo Monguzzi, with which the possibility of continuing to practice for the current season the hunting in derogation, which in any case could not continue beyond December 31st. The measure was approved with 44 votes in favor and a single abstention and modifies regional law no. 24 of 2008 on hunting in derogation, repealing paragraph 1 of article 4.
“It is a duty even if not shared - explained the president of the Productive Activities Commission Carlo Saffioti - with whom we accept the invitation formulated last December 10 by the President of the European Court of Justice in an order addressed to the Italian Republic. The hope is now that of being able to resume hunting in derogation next year without running into the opposition of the Court ”.
With its order, the European Court of Justice complained about the non-compliance of the Lombard law with the European Directive on hunting and also highlighted that the continuation of hunting for protected species authorized by the Lombard law of 2008 could have caused serious damage to the fauna and ornithological heritage.
