The goodness of the hunting calendar
“The hunting calendar ofEmilia Romagna, also approved by the regional Assembly Commission, was not rejected. And, reaffirming its goodness, a technical note will be released in the next few hours which will contain indications of what can be done. Furthermore, we are evaluating the possibility of extending some hunting activities, such as sedentary hunting, to make up for the days that will be lost in September". The regional councilor for Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing Alessio Mammi, confirms that the Region will appeal to the Council of State against the order of the Regional Administrative Court of Bologna, which upholds some suspension measures relating to the 2023/24 hunting calendar. Appeal that will focus on the opening and closing periods of the hunt and the additional days for the October-November period.
Elements to explore further
An appeal that is necessary "as there are procedural elements that need to be explored and evaluated" adds Mammi. "We are amazed - continues the councilor - that the same re-proposed calendar has had a different evaluation in two consecutive years, this creates enormous uncertainty in the law and organization of hunting activity. We will ask that the hearing on the merits be held before the closing of the hunting season, at the moment only complying with the parts on which the ordinance now obliges us to proceed. In fact, the closure will not be changed for now as it is not necessary but also because we are working to strengthen the reasons for our choices, as we are confident that we will be able to maintain the previously approved dates".
Rules to be implemented
“Yesterday I asked Minister Lollobrigida – adds Mammi – for a clear intervention from the State on this situation which needs clarity given that it concerns not only ours but also other Italian regions. I also raised the issue of wetlands and the need to clarify as soon as possible which rules must be implemented as there is a lot of confusion among hunters. We need to re-establish correct legislative paths, where, if the Regions have the right to identify the opening and closing dates within a range established by law 157, this is possible and not subject to changing decisions from time to time". Finally, considering the fact that in the last two years the hunting calendar has seen a reduction in hunting days, we are studying, together with the budget service, whether there is the possibility of intervening to reduce the regional tax that hunters will pay in 2024.
