Arci Caccia: we ask for it to protect the health of citizens and the local economy. Statement by Andrea Severi, president of the Arci Caccia of Rome and the Province.
“With its own ordinance, the mayor of Fiumicino, Esterino Montino, has arranged to suspend fishing and hunting respectively in the waters falling within the state reserve of the Roman coast and throughout the municipal territory as of November XNUMXth. For hunting, the ban is expected for the next fifteen days. Faced with such a sudden and drastic decision, Arci Caccia, which has always been attentive to good management of the territory for the purposes of environmental and wildlife protection, is not aware of specific indications from the scientific and health control authorities of the region, however not indicated in the text of the ordinance, asks the Mayor to know, for the purpose of providing correct information to citizens, including hunters and fishermen, whether the ordinance is the result of personal and instinctive considerations or dictated by technical and legal reasons.
It is not a question of diminishing the episode for which the immediate search for responsibilities is hoped to activate the rapid course of justice but to have full awareness that in the pen of Mayor Montino when he signed the ordinance, the desire to give full and effective protection of the health of the inhabitants of the area and not to hunt hunting and fishing for ideological and family reasons. If we had been in the Mayor's shoes, to tell the truth we would have involved hunters and fishermen from the province and the territory, we would have consulted research and monitoring bodies, we would have urgently convened a discussion table to hire, even with the interested parties in a possible prohibition, consequent decisions.
To do this, a first order, as a precaution, signed by the mayor Montino that lasted two and three days would have been enough. Instead, a different path was chosen and probably the reasons are to be sought elsewhere. In the meantime, the private and economic activities of the territory already strongly tested by light and heavy industry settlements thank for the damage resulting from the suspension of the hunting activity which in that quadrant represents a substantial induced activity.
And since the "cats" of Fiumicino, with all due respect, represent less consensus than hunters and operators in the sector can count, as far as we are concerned we will make sure to refresh their memory in due time since at the good family lounge we do not participate and we are even less interested in doing so ".
