The judgment of the administrative judges
A new positive news after that relating to the Lombardia. Even the Regional Administrative Court of Umbria largely rejected the animal-environmental appeal presented against the Umbria Region, the ATC Perugia 1 and 2, the Federcaccia and the National Free Hunting Association. As it is easy to understand, the hunting calendar for the 2022-2023 season was thrown out.
Who filed the appeal
The appeal, however, was presented by the WWF, LIPU (Italian League for Bird Protection), Legambiente, LAV (Anti-Vivisection League), LAC (League for the Abolition of Hunting) and ENPA (National Animal Protection Body). The general and undifferentiated opening up of hunting for all species, with particular reference to aquatic birds, was not appreciated.
The task of the Regions
As regards the other reasons for the appeal, the judges of the TAR were very clear: it is up to the Regions to modify the various terms for certain species and in relation to the environmental situations of the various territorial realities, supporting their motivation with extensive scientific references and studies carried out in years.
