Hunting opening: There is no doubt about the single opening date of hunting in Umbria which in the proposed 2011-2012 hunting calendar should take place on Sunday 18 September.
Perugia, 24 Jun 2011 - Confagricoltura and Cia Umbria have urged an immediate solution to this effect with respect to the troubled process that the issue has been taking in recent days, reaffirming their full support for the draft pre-adopted by the regional council. “It is not possible - underline the agricultural associations - to follow up on specialized motivations, when hunting is mainly based on a management policy, in relation to the environment and agricultural problems. “The opening of the hunt must therefore be done on the third Sunday of September, so as not to cause damage to the crops in progress.
The anomalous climatic trend could have caused a delay in the sowing and vegetative phases of the crops, consequently most of the crops could still be in the field if the hunting calendar was anticipated.
Postponing the shotgun after mid-September would give the majority of farmers time to carry out threshing operations.
Finally, Confagricoltura Umbria and Cia Umbria deem it necessary not to postpone the opening date of the wild boar to limit the ever-increasing damage to the species as well as the need for measures aimed at containing and controlling the species.
The agricultural associations therefore hope for greater collaboration with the hunting world for containment interventions which would be much more effective to organize in the spring months (March, April, May and June) in implementation of well-defined management plans.
Cia and Confagricoltura dell'Umbria therefore believe that a prevention policy in the spring period can give much more consistent results in the control of the wild boar species.
