Hunt in Rome: the new Tar Ordinance on the possible suspension of hunting activities in the provincial territory is expected tomorrow.
Today morning, the judges of the Lazio Regional Administrative Court examined the request for suspension of the Regional Decree concerning the Hunting Calendar and the regulations for the 2012-2013 Hunting Season, presented by the animal rights activists of Lav.
The reason for the dispute concerns the non-compliance by the Region of the ISPRA guide, the Higher Institute for Research and Environmental Protection, which indicates the criteria for complying with the EU directive, especially as regards avian species.
Another reason given by the appeal of the animal rights activists is the absence of the expected Environmental Impact Assessment both as regards the Hunting Calendar and for the community sites on the Wildlife-Hunting Plans.
According to the Lav, these critical points could put Italy in a situation such as to incur further infringement procedures by the European Union as already happened in 2010, forcing the country to pay heavy fines.
The Lazio Region claims to have operated according to the rules and exercising its discretionary powers; the Tar Ordinance following today's assessments is expected for tomorrow.
