The controversy over the hunting season does not subside the day after the protest of the hunters. Several environmental associations are ready to file a complaint against the changes to the hunting calendar approved by the Environment Department.
Oppi's reply: “The integration of the calendar was made with criteria to safeguard the activity”. The associations Enpa, Lav, Legambiente, Lipu BirdLife Italia and Wwf Italia have instructed their lawyers to lodge a complaint with the Public Prosecutor of Cagliari and the Court of Auditors for the changes made to the hunting calendar by the Regional Technical Committee and approved by the Councilor for Defense of the Giorgio Oppi environment.
According to environmentalists, the Sardinian affair opens a new phase in the fight against hunting abuses, which will be extended everywhere to prosecute those who continue to illegally favor private interests to the detriment of animals and nature.
Giorgio Oppi, regional councilor for environmental defense intervened on the subject: "The hunting calendar of 23 December brought the conclusion of the hunting activity, for certain species, to Sunday 8 January, in line with what is reported in the ISPRA document for the drafting of hunting calendars. We understand well the opposition, and only in words, of the councilors Artizzu and Sanna regarding the decisions taken by the Wildlife Committee yesterday ”.
"It is not clear - continues Opp - why the same intransigence used in the externalization for the use and consumption of public opinion, has not been used to request the immediate discussion of the bill on hunting that has long been awaiting inclusion in the 'Agenda of the Chamber ”.
Finally, the commissioner concludes: "It should be noted that a coherent expression of negative vote in the Committee was not expressed by the representatives of the hunting associations that are members of the Committee itself, who instead took the convenient position of abstention from voting, putting at risk the possibility of arriving also to January 19th ".
Finally, “The only proposal for modification and integration of the calendar, made with criteria that would safeguard the hunting calendar from further observations and appeals, was made after the solicitations addressed to the members of the associations present fell on deaf ears. In light of the decision of the Council of State, it was not possible to legitimately authorize the hunting activity after January 19 and in the month of February ".
