A poll commissioned by CNCN and FACE ITALIA to ASTRA RICERCHE reveals that the majority of Italians (55%) are not against hunting, but want hunting to be regulated. However, very many (45%) have not been aware of the strict rules governing the matter for over 20 years. And, surprisingly, the hunters are mostly "young" between 25 and 34 years old
Rome, 15 September 2010 - Significant results emerged from the opinion poll that CNCN (National Hunting and Nature Committee) e Face Italy (Federcaccia, Liberacaccia, AnuuMigratoristi, Enalcaccia) commissioned the institute Astra Searches on the topic "Italians and hunting".
At the base of this study is the will of the hunting world to better understand the feelings and opinions of Italians regarding a hot and emotionally engaging topic, which too often does not leave room for a serene confrontation, based on scientific arguments.
To face this commitment in a clear and transparent way, accepting the risk of results not in line with hunters' expectations, an independent research institute was chosen with respect to the topic, which is Astra Ricerche, chaired by sociologist Enrico Finzi. The commissioned survey is the largest and most profound among those carried out in the sector, both for the size of the sample and for the number of questions. The entire questionnaire is available to anyone interested.
Previous research has always given a majority of those against hunting over those in favor, this study reveals a different reality: the majority of Italians (55%) are not against regulated and sustainable hunting.
data show that there is a strong connection between poor knowledge of the subject - 45% of our compatriots know nothing or almost nothing about the hunting limits imposed by current regulations; 28% know only a few; no more than 27% are widely informed -, and an opinion not favorable to hunting and its practitioners.
"This investigation - says the CNCN president Alessandro Tamburini - represents the first step in a path of knowledge and analysis that the hunting world wants to undertake to better understand the relationship of society with the hunting activity, assessing its needs and concerns in order to be able to give adequate answers both from the point of view of information than concrete initiatives ".
"The results of the research - the hunting associations gathered in FACE Italia declare - as well as being comforting and possibly constituting an important prerequisite for identifying new and useful hunting policy strategies for Face Italia, they are the answer to the need to recover an indispensable measure on the perception of hunting by Italians. Especially in the light of the instrumental use of most of the research commissioned already with the aim of obtaining a well prefigured result and therefore at least questionable in terms of methods and objectivity. An indispensable basis on which to base the demands and defense of the rights of a hunting world made up of responsible and balanced people. And above all, far from that stereotypical image that wants old and backward hunters. There are many young people, educated and dynamic. A world, that of hunting, inserted in society, which must only succeed in the effort to make itself known better ”.
"The opinion poll we carried out - Enrico Finzi specifies - it was the largest breakthrough in Italy both for the vastness of the sample (over 2000 interviews), and for the number and type of questions: deepening this issue better than usual, it emerged that the country is very hostile to 'wild' hunting but mostly accepts regulated, limited, responsible and sustainable hunting activity (which, however, often does not know already exist). In fact, the 'opposite extremisms' of the hunters who reject all constraints and the 'fundamentalist' anti-hunters do not obtain the consent of the Italians, who express a moderate and so to speak 'central' position between the two extremes ”.
