Hunting: Imperia, after the third suspension of hunting in Liguria, the Province of Imperia requests a meeting with the Prefect. Councilor Leuzzi: "It is indecent, witch hunt on hunters".
The alternation of appeals and suspensions of the hunting calendar of the Liguria Region continues. The last suspension measure, the third launched in a few months against hunting was issued two days ago by the Council of State to examine the appeals presented by some environmental associations, after the TAR of Liguria had rejected the request for suspension of the 13-2013 hunting calendar expressed by the same associations. The issue was addressed this morning in the Province in a meeting attended by the provincial councilors Paolo Leuzzi and Alberto Bellotti, the president of the Provincial Council Alessandro Piana (Lega Nord) and the councilors of the "United" group, Angelo Alberti, Mauro Lanteri and Gian Stefano Orengo. "The contribution of the provincial hunters councilors is essential to give respite to all the requests that are being received regarding the umpteenth suspension given by the TAR on the hunting calendar in the Liguria Region, It is an indecency, unfortunately a sort of witch hunt in which hunters always look like hunted or huntable, it is something that must be stopped as soon as possible "- declared the provincial councilor for hunting, Paolo Leuzzi -" We asked for a meeting with the Prefect on this matter because we would not want them excited to force their hand ”.
"We propose that hunting calendars return to being the prerogative of the regions, for this reason law 157 on hunting should be amended" - declares the president of the Provincial Council, Alessandro Piana - "for example the Lombardy region has problems similar to ours, but in their case the TAR has not ordered the suspension of hunting to examine the requests of environmental associations. In order not to harm the rights of hunters, the observations raised should be acknowledged and any corrections to be made to the hunting calendar should be examined, but without suspending the hunt ".
"When we hunters go to clean the paths I have never seen an environmentalist present to give us a hand" - said the councilor Gian Stefano Orengo - "If you walk the paths of the Ligurian hinterland, especially the West, it is thanks to the work of all the hunters who clean the paths every year. I would say that these appeals have been made as a pretext, that they are not substantial, but they try to harm the category of hunters, without any advantage for the environment. The Liguria Region had issued the hunting calendar in good time, while the appeal of the WWF and other environmentalist acronyms took place on the 59th day of the 60 days useful to be able to present it: if there were really substantial issues, harmful to the environment, they should have done it immediately, but it is clear that this is a pretext to extend the time ”.
