2017 ended just a month ago and it is time to take stock also in the hunting field. As disclosed by Luca Braia, Councilor for Agricultural Policies of Basilicata region, more than 9400 wild boars thanks to hunting and control. The number was positively defined by the councilor himself, taking into account the fact that the killing has increased compared to the past.
In particular, Braia highlighted the most effective organization and the creation of short supply chain, two of the actions that have made it possible to reduce the number of ungulates. The problem is being addressed, as is happening in other regions, so as to be transformed into an economic resource. Meanwhile, the regional Coldiretti presented a plan to the region.
In particular, the agricultural association has requested emergency ordinances from the mayors of Lucania, so as to be implemented extraordinary control measures, in addition to the appointment of a commissioner for protected areas in the event that the park authorities have not adopted specific measures for containment. Another suggestion is to extend the killing period of wild boars from 1st September to 30th April. The intentions are very ambitious and we will see in the coming months how the control of the wild will change.
