Una Single regional commission for the selection of operators authorized to carry out the selective control of the cormorant. It provides for the establishment of a regional resolution, approved today by the Council, on the proposal of the Councilor for Agriculture, Food and Green Systems of the Lombardia Fabio Rolfi, to cope with the excessive presence of cormorants that is damaging sport and professional fishing in Lombardy. “Also this year we have authorized the collection of 993 specimens in the territories of the provinces of Varese, Como, Lecco, Bergamo and Brescia - commented the commissioner Rolfi -. The collection can currently only be made by provincial police officers, now in small numbers due to the Delrio Law.
For this reason we have decided to establish a regional commission that has the task of examine the requests of the hunters who are applying for the release of the qualification for the selective control of the cormorant ". The selective control plan currently active in Lombardy provides, from 1 October 2019 to 15 March 2020, the killing of 993 specimens, equal to 10% of the cormorant individuals counted in Lombardy. The Commission will be composed of a manager, identified within the regional administration, competent in faunal-hunting matters, which chairs it, and relative alternate manager, and by two experts in wildlife-hunting, identified within the regional administration, and relative alternates.
“It is necessary to defend the ecosystem from the devastating effect of supernumerary alien species - concluded Rolfi -. The cormorant not only contributes drastically to decrease in the fish stock, but it also causes injury to fish, which makes them susceptible to disease, and often leads them to abandon occupied habitat sectors, even in strategic moments such as reproduction or winter shelter ”.
