There are still two weeks to the deadline set for the submission of the application by the Tuscan breeders who have suffered damage from wolves or other predators. As specified by the provincial section of Pistoia of Coldiretti, the deadline was set for January 20, 2017 for those who have been damaged between January 1st and November 30th last year. However, the agricultural association has pointed out that these indemnities are not effective, indeed they can be compared to a drop in the ocean.
For Michelle Nieri, number one of Coldiretti Pistoia, the breakdowns are really numerous and huge, between road accidents and abandonment of crops and farms in the mountains, hills and plains. Just a few days ago a young motorist was the victim of a road accident due to a wild boar, fortunately without physical consequences. This means that ungulates have become sedentary animals in "unsuitable" areas of the territory.
The number of wild animals is far too high in all of Tuscany, given that we are talking about over 230 thousand wild boars, 200 thousand roe deer, 12 thousand fallow deer, 4 thousand deer and 3 thousand mouflons. Compensation could also cover all damage caused by wolves, wild boars and deer, but then the abandonment of land could not be compensated. Coldiretti Pistoia therefore reiterated the need for a policy that report wild animals to compatible numbers, since the only alternative is to abandon the productions.
