La LAV (Anti-Vivisection League) has released the following statement in the last few hours: "While citizens are called to strictly comply with the restrictive ordinances linked to the epidemic from Covid 19, the region Toscana gives voluntary hunting guards in possession of a hunting license - therefore hunters - subject to "authorization" of the provincial police, the privilege of being able to circulate freely on the regional territory under the pretext of carrying out killing of wildlife considered harmful, thus violating the principles of the Decrees of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers which have already excluded any activity connected with hunting.
At risk of killing, among other things in full reproductive period, roe deer, wild boar, fox, pigeon, minilepre and even the starling, which would in any case require a specific and well-motivated resolution of "levy in derogation" pursuant to the European directive "Birds" 2009/147 / EC. In the order issued by President Rossi we see the usual list of specious and generic reasons, from road safety - in a period when hardly anyone circulates - to the protection of agricultural production. Too bad that it does not mention the use of any prevention system, mandatory and priority for Law 157 with respect to culls.
For this reason, together with the associations ENPA, LAC, LIPU and WWF Italy we denounce this unacceptable and paradoxical situation: the Tuscany Region once again declares war on animals! Not even the six sentences of the Constitutional Court, which make the use of private figures illegitimate to carry out useless and unjustifiable killing, were sufficient to force the hunting world to respect national rules. Worse still, the pandemic doesn't stop hunters either, potential vehicles of the Coronavirus, made more "free" than other citizens, who instead undertake to respect the restrictions imposed in this dramatic period ".
