In six days, Friday March 11 2016, the meeting room of the former Walls Barracks of Macomer (province of Nuoro) will host a very important meeting between the hunting associations of Sardinia and the representatives of the self-managed hunting areas, those of the agritourism-hunting companies and the groups active in big game hunting. The appointment, set for 18 pm, will also involve the various local administrations and the discussion will mainly concern the proposals to be submitted to the Region for find a valid and effective alternative to the Territorial Areas of Hunting. The establishment of ATCs on the island causes discussion, given that we are talking about a not very homogeneous territory, a detail that would not allow the activities of the Sectors to be coordinated in the best possible way.
The latter were provided for by the Framework Law on Hunting of 1992, while if you look at Sardinia the reference standard is the Regional Law number 23 of 1998, containing “Regulations for the protection of wildlife and for the exercise of hunting in Sardinia”. The issue dates back to almost eighteen years ago, but despite the "maturity" achieved, the application was practically impossible. This text has dedicated three articles to the Territorial Areas of Hunting, to be precise article 16, 17 and 18.
The first explains the tasks of the steering committees, the second outlines the composition and establishment of the same, while the third is dedicated to the functioning of this decision-making body. L'Union of Hunters of Sardinia (UCS) he repeatedly criticized the regional law, defining it a real "plagiarism" of the national one on hunting and recalling how useful the previous legislation was. In fact, Regional Law number 32 of 1978 remained in force for about two decades (“On the protection of fauna and the exercise of hunting in Sardinia”), what has been defined as an anticipation of the forecasts of the European Union, as it referred to the lower number of huntable species and hunting days.
This is why the Territorial Areas failed to meet the hoped-for success and the meeting next week it was organized with great optimism, in the hope of identifying the right and alternative solutionsotherwise the problem will always remain the same. Macomer was talked about in relation to hunting even a few weeks ago to announce the first time the island was the protagonist of a fair dedicated to hunting, fishing and leisure. The event is scheduled from 17 to 19 June next, so this late winter meeting could be one more starting point for the debates of the Sardinian fair, a sort of "appetizer" in view of more detailed insights.
