Hunting and Fauna: ANUU Migrators on the pass and the ringing activity “The Black Nurses are coming”.
The first Black Balia (Ficedula hypoleuca) of the post-nuptial ringing activity in 2013 was captured on Thursday 1 August at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory / European Foundation Il Nibbio di Arosio (CO), while the nets were being prepared: the official activity it begins every year on August 4 since 1977, that is, for thirty-six years. The collection of data is really important and interesting notes can be drawn from it as well as from the meteorological conditions, measured continuously and constantly and in a standardized way. In this regard, it must be remembered that in 2012, as of August 4, the subjects of Black Balia ringed were 11, while in 2003 they were 10, in a hot and dry summer like that of this year from mid-July onwards. Magnificent and satisfying is the news of the arrival of this tiny skipjack among the fresh branches of the Arosio Observatory, expertly cared for every year. The first subject, captured at 6.20 am was the Black Balia (INFS GA 405001), born in the year, while the Finches (nesting) were 3 and, in the middle of the morning, a Frosone was captured, born in the year.
Also in 2012 a breeding specimen was caught. In total, on the first day of ringing, now in its 36th year, the following were captured: 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Flycatchers, 3 Finches, 2 Blue Tit, 1 Frosone and 6 Black Balie, as well as 1 White Luì, 1 Blackcap, 1 Great Tit, 1 Beccafico, 1 Marsh Tit, for a total of 20 specimens. If the day starts in the morning - an old saying went - other days so favorable for a beautiful year are welcome. To close these notes: the mighty Styx is further strengthened, the North African anticyclone with great heat everywhere, up to 40 ° C in Rome. Very hot on almost the entire continent, starting with a strip that runs from London to Warsaw, but in Kiev we are around 27 ° C.
