Hunting: Piedmont, for Coldiretti the bill on hunting is not convincing because it does not solve agricultural problems, environmental protection and road safety. Coldiretti ready to do battle.
The Piedmont Regional Council has sent the draft law approved by the Piedmontese Regional Council on hunting to the Agriculture Commission. Coldiretti Piemonte participated in the consultation called by the Commission with the president Roberto Moncalvo, accompanied by the deputy director Marco Girò and the technicians and lawyers who deal with the sector for the organization, delivering to the commission and the president of the Regional Council, Valerio Cattaneo, a articulated document containing the modification proposals of Coldiretti Piemonte.
Roberto Moncalvo, president of the regional Federation, says: "Our document is very complex and starts from the observation that the bill currently under discussion deals with the issue essentially from a hunting point of view, without giving decisive answers to the needs of the agricultural world and society. civil. In particular, we asked to introduce the possibility of controlling excess game species, specifically wild boar and roe deer, giving farmers the possibility of implementing forms of containment of wild species on their own funds or conducted for any reason in a very simplified manner. One way to protect the income of agricultural businesses, given that in recent years the slaughter plans prepared by the provinces, with the sole help of hunters, have not led to any results, on the contrary the situation has significantly worsened both from the agricultural and social".
Adds Bruno Rivarossa, director of Coldiretti Piemonte: “Wild boars and roe deer are often the cause of road accidents, many of which are serious and in some cases even fatal. We continuously receive reports from mayors who show the need to contain these species, not only for agricultural and environmental aspects, but to ensure the safety of the whole society, in particular of people who live in hilly and mountainous areas. We believe that the bill currently under discussion can be strengthened and improved in the interests of business, the environment and society as a whole. If our requests are not accepted, we reserve awareness actions also with the involvement of the Piedmontese municipal administrations and the various associations set up to defend the interests of the citizen. The problem has been dragging on for too long and people are taking over, after so much anger, also dangerous feelings of resignation which are deleterious from the point of view of environmental protection and safeguarding the territory ”.
Coldiretti Piemonte intends to continue this battle to protect not only the agricultural sector, but the entire Piedmontese society. The community in recent years has paid too high a price, both in economic terms and in terms of victims, for a sport that has lost its true nature, transforming itself in many cases into a search for business, done by a few on agricultural land and in " beard ”to the legitimate requests of civil society and municipal administrations.
The energetic position taken by Coldiretti Piemonte also derives from the reading of the data. Consider that from 1996 to 2011, 33.453.000 euros were spent in Piedmont to compensate part of the agricultural damages, with an annual average of 2.091.000 euros. What is truly disconcerting, and which demonstrates the clear failure of the objectives of regional law 70/96, is that in 1996 damages amounting to 785.000 euros were ascertained. In 2011, the annual damages increased to 2.261.000 euros. At least three times as much! Not to mention road accidents, damage to the environment and health hazards.
Moncalvo and Rivarossa conclude: “We have always held a firm but constructive position towards the Region. The current proposal does not satisfy us. We ask for an immediate integration of the draft law of the council by the regional council. If this does not happen, we will reserve strong actions in a short time, because there is really a lot of anger in the area. "
