Poaching and surroundings: in Cinto Euganeo (PD), a man cuts down a starling but is surprised by the men of the Provincial Police who report him and sanction him for four thousand euros.
It happened in Cinto Euganeo, in the province of Padua, where the Provincial Police surprised a hunter who had just killed a starling, a species of bird not present among those that can be hunted and protected by both national legislation and the European Community.
While two hunters were intent on hunting larks, two gamekeepers were stationed a short distance away, keeping them under control; unfortunately, among the larks shot down by the hunters, a starling also ended up in the game bag that one of them had shot down.
Once the downed bird had been recovered, the hunter, realizing that it was a starling, after a digression with his partner on the hunt in derogation in the Region, decided to throw it among the tall grasses of a field but the agents had already witnessed the scene and so they approached asking how the joke had gone and if they had seen the starlings go by.
Considering the targeted questions from the controllers, the hunter admitted that he had killed one, but that given the situation of uncertainty regarding hunting in recent days, and the lack of information, he had not become aware of the hunting suspension. for this species.
Shortly thereafter he showed the Provincial Police officers where he had thrown the fallen starling to retrieve it; the man was reported on the loose for poaching, the rifle in his possession was seized and at the same time he was administratively sanctioned for a total of about four thousand euros.
Similar cases have been frequent in recent days as the Veneto Region has suddenly suspended, without giving notice in time, the hunting in derogation of five bird species in order to avoid heavy sanctions by the European Union and the hunting associations have not informed immediately affiliates of the program change.
