As announced on its Facebook page by the association "Friends of Scolopax", also in 2018 the research project is continuing "Scolopax Overland", dedicated (as can be easily understood) to woodcock. The initiative is now in its seventh consecutive year and involves the satellite study of migratory dynamics of woodcocks who winter in our country. It also makes use of the important collaboration of the University of Padua, more precisely of his own Department of Biology, without forgetting the contribution ofMigratory Birdlife Office of the Italian Federation of Hunting.
A satellite transmitter is placed on some woodcock specimens and operation is guaranteed by solar energy. Amici di Scolopax recalled that it is not his intention to put up publications that would then be destined for pure propaganda, preferring continue on this research path, despite the many difficulties. There are also obstacles and speculations, but the association wanted to involve the spring activities in this first glimpse of 2018.
The woodcocks renamed "Hope" and "Freedom" have been equipped with transmitters and will soon provide fundamental information for the study. The Italian research therefore confirms itself at the forefront of the path taken to solve the mysteries of migration. There will be further and valuable updates in the coming months.
