Il National Union of Hunters has announced the acceptance of its application, a very important news for the Sicilian woodcock, since the hunting calendar 2017-2018 will remain unchanged. The association had written to the Regional Agricultural Resources Department. After recalling the involvement of approx 33mila people in the hunting activity of the island (hunters, dog technicians, landowners, dog breeders, game importers and distributors of weapons and ammunition).
The interests that circulate in the field of hunting are therefore numerous and complex, so it was made to understand to the new councilor, Edy Flag, that there would be no worse way to start the term than bring forward the closing date of the woodcock hunt. Among other things, it took years of legal litigation to set this calendar date as January 31, a change would have been disastrous. A different date would also have been unreasonable, given that from September until today there have been no new scientific data able to justify the novelty.
The application was also signed by the Sicilian Federation of Hunting, the Artemide Association, Sicilian Free Hunters, the Hunting Fishing and Environment Association, the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies Hunting Federation, the Hunting Federation for the Regions of Europe and Italcaccia. These acronyms represent the two thirds of Sicilian hunters and their appeal could not go unheeded, as it actually happened.
