With a letter sent by European Commission signed by Humberto Delgado Rosa, head of the Environment Directorate General, i environment managers of the Member States to suspend withdrawals of pochard and lapwing, two species present in many if not all the hunting calendars of the Italian regions. The claim is surprising for several reasons, but the main one is that it is based on inaccurate data and therefore in our opinion absolutely incorrect.
In addition, for both species the methods and limits of the levy applied in our country are considered by the same Ispra in line with prudential management to protect their protection. Federcaccia, together with the other hunting associations gathered in the Control room, immediately took action to point out the inaccuracies contained in the letter from the Environment Directorate and suggest some arguments to respond to the Commission by July 31, 2019 supporting the legitimacy of Italian hunting calendars.
We hope that in dealing with the issue our country will abide by objective technical-scientific considerations without embracing emotional drifts in response to ideological campaigns that we can unfortunately foresee will be implemented by the usual animal rights and abolitionist acronyms.
