Il Regional Fauna Committee of Sardinia met yesterday in Cagliari in the presence of the environmental defense councilor, Donatella Spano. It was decided by a majority to ask theISPRA (Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), clarifications on the previous opinion on the 2018-2019 hunting calendar with specific reference to Sardinian partridge and Sardinian hare and to simultaneously transmit the report of the University of Sassari which is carrying out studies and research in collaboration with the Region.
With a sense of responsibility, the Regional Fauna Committee had deliberated by majority two half days for 30 September and 7 October, interspersed with a week-long hunting silence in order to protect the Sardinian hare and the Sardinian partridge as much as possible. Following the suspension of the hunting calendar limited to the two species by the TAR, the Committee decided to submit to Ispra a new request for an opinion for the extension to the full day on the days mentioned for all permitted species with the exception of hare and partridge.
In its opinion on the 2018-2019 regional hunting calendar, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research had expressed its appreciation for the start of data collection on the consistency and reproductive success of the populations of Sardinian Partridge and Sardinian Hare in sample areas of Sardinia and for the intention of the Region to carry out censuses within the areas in concession for the self-managed hunting, functional to the preparation of withdrawal plans.
