The coordinators ISPRA of the National Wolf Tracking, illustrated, in an online meeting, the lines of action of the project for the coming months. In the second phase, the collection of the signs of presence of the wolf throughout the Italian territory, it will be necessary to analyze the data both from a genetic and a statistical point of view. In fact, in addition to the 20 technicians designated by Federparchi who coordinated the field activity in the Apennine area, the representatives of the ISPRA laboratories in Ozzano dell'Emilia were present where the genotyping of the samples and the statisticians who are working on verifying the data collected in the national wolf database.
The working group, with transversal skills and distributed throughout peninsular Italy, has planned the work of returning the project data to regions and parks where, in addition to the database with the data collected in the respective territories, a list of the network of technicians who have been active in the project will also be provided. At the end of February 2022 the estimate of the abundance and distribution of the wolf on the national territory based on a standardized protocol and a scientific statistical model developed by industry experts.
