As disclosed by the National Union of Hunters, almost four years have passed since the sentence with which the Constitutional Court rejected the lack of involvement of the Sicilian local authorities in the institution of protected areas that fall within their territory. In this way the Nature Reserve was dismissed "Pantani of South Eastern Sicily" (also known as "Pantani di Pachino"), between the provinces of Ragusa and Syracuse.
The founding decree had been challenged at the TAR by the Municipality of Pachino and the administrative judges had declared it illegitimate. Last month, the management plan for Natura 2000 sites, but the legal proceedings of the Sicilian protected areas have not ended here. In fact, the Administrative Justice Council for the Sicilian Region accepted the appeal of the Municipality of Floresta (Messina): the Regional Department of the Territory and Environment is obliged to review the boundaries of the Nebrodi Park, a process that must begin no later than 90 days from the communication or notification of the sentence.
The mayor had asked the Region to change the boundaries of the park, but there had been no response. Despite the not very encouraging precedents, the decision will now revolutionize the territorial structure of all Sicilian protected areas. At this point, each local authority can demand the revision of the boundaries of parks and reserves, freeing large areas from urban and environmental constraints: this means that even the regional wildlife plan it may be revised in the light of the changes just illustrated.
