Yesterday, Friday 3 November 2017, the Palermo Regional Administrative Court has decided to accept the requests of various animal and environmental associations against hunting in the Sicilian islands of Marettimo (Egadi) and Salina (Aeolian). This is the hunting activity authorized by the Regional Agricultural Resources Department last 19 September: Legambiente, LIPU and WWF have complained about the violation of the hunting fauna plan and the ban on hunting perennand, with the judges who agreed with these associations.
Furthermore, according to the applicants, the protection of the local fauna was restored in this way. Furthermore, on 29 November the same TAR of Palermo will have to examine another environmental appeal, to be precise, the one asking for the cancellation of hunting in the smaller islands of the Egadi, Aeolian Islands and Pantelleria (in this case the failure to acquire the opinions of ISPRA was complained).
The Councilor's decree Antonello Cracolici provided for the possibility of culling three rabbits a day from the September 20 to the November 30, while the period 1 October 2017 - 31 January 2018 was the one allowed for the other species. In the text, then, we can still read how the hunting activity in Salina must be regulated with a specific measure. Finally, the Department had not allowed the use of lead shot ammunition in wetlands such as lakes, ponds, swamps and marshes.
