The need to acquire an ever-increasing level of knowledge through the collection of data and useful information has become an essential element for the management of the avifauna heritage of the Western Palearctic. In this regard, this bibliographic work has been published which aims to highlight, through the experience of the authors, the phenomenon of migration of the Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos), a large turdid that is among the huntable species in the Mediterranean basin, in particular in Italy.
This volume highlights those technical-scientific skills which, in the appropriate locations, can be considered on the basis of the so-called Key-concepts, always subject to comparisons between hunting associations, regional administrations and the European Commission. Through science and data collection it can be demonstrated how hunting can not conflict with conservation projects. Thanks to the indications provided by the European Union, for some time many followers of Diana have become an active part in field research in order to improve the knowledge of the winged world affected by a controlled and
responsible. The volume opens with a general description of the biology and phenology of the Song Thrush touching the various areas of presence of the species and its status. Two important chapters follow, dedicated to hunting collection and management of the species and, subsequently, the researches started by the Migratory Birdlife Office of the Italian Federation of Hunting are inserted with the aim of collecting the scientific data necessary to determine correctly and with good approximation the decade of the beginning of the pre-nuptial migration in central-southern Italy. The studies were conducted by the Inanellamento Limicoli Group of Naples (GIL) and the research activity was conducted in five capture areas located in Puglia, Campania, Calabria and Lazio, managed by authorized ISPRA ringers and under the careful guidance of Sergio Scebba, well known since the first studies conducted on behalf of ANUUMigratoristi and also by FEIN.
The collected data are treated in depth and then included in a conclusive analysis that we leave to the reader the pleasure of discovering. After a rich bibliography listed and consulted, the volume closes with technical-scientific articles concerning the research carried out and published in prestigious European journals in the ornithological sector.
A book recommended to all those who "thirst" for serious information based on scientific concepts that give a first clear account of how this great turdide, so loved by enthusiasts and much discussed among those who deal with its management, lives and moves on our territory.
