Here is the text of the letter of the Confederation of Tuscan Hunters regional councilor Marco Remaschi: “The recent pronouncement of the Council of State on 2018/2019 Hunting Calendar of the Tuscany Region and the consequent acceptance of the suspension application proposed by the Animalist and Environmentalist Associations on some parts of the calendar, requires an in-depth analysis and an urgent comparison on the choices that the Tuscany Region and the Regional Council intend to make in the next few hours, in order to restore a framework of legal certainty for hunters. The Confederation of Tuscan Hunters has already had the opportunity to express its assessments on an unacceptable sentence e devoid of any scientific element which, moreover, comes in the aftermath of an opposite ruling by the Tuscan TAR.
For this reason we have intended to propose to his attention and to that of the entire Tuscan Regional Council, the need to adopt an urgent legislative act aimed at overcoming the vulnus generated by the Council of State allowing to extend hunting in January for the species concerned. The technical-scientific reasons supporting these requests are also already included in the Guidelines Ispra and in other authoritative scientific opinions that we will be able to illustrate in the meeting. For the Confederation of Tuscan Hunters you can find important references to support the reasons for the request presented by us referring to the contents of the Community Directive no. 2009/147 / EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 30 November 2009 concerning the conservation of wild birds and the document drawn up by Ispra, concerning the guide for the drafting of the Hunting Calendars pursuant to Law 157/92, as amended by Community law 2009 art. 42.
Without prejudice to the studies on the Woodcock species already taken as a reference by the Tuscany Region and containing sufficient reasons for the extension of the hunting season beyond 10 January, in particular for the species Wood pigeon, as for the Corvids, Ispra considers suitable and compatible for the conservation and rational management of the species a hunting period between the third Sunday of September and 31 January motivating the possibility of a possible extension of the hunt until February 10th.
Also for aquatic species, reference may be made to the decree of the Ministry of the Environment and the protection of the territory and the sea, of 17 October 2007 and subsequent amendments. mod. in defining the conservation measures of Special Conservation Areas (SACs) and Special Protection Areas (SPAs). We are confident that our request is adequately considered and that the politics and institutions of this Region are able to provide a serious and timely response to overcome a serious and highly damaging event for those who have regularly paid the fees required to exercise a right " .
