Poaching: in the province of Udine, a man was caught hunting in the lagoon by Forestry agents in collaboration with the Federcaccia Hunting Guards.
It is a period of general prohibition. The activities to combat poaching to safeguard the wildlife that is the unavailable heritage of the state has borne fruit in these days in Marano, in the province of Udine. The staff of the Regional Forestry Corps belonging to the central stable structure for hunting based in Pagnacco, in close collaboration with the environmental and zoophilic hunting surveillance agents of the Italian Federation of the Hunting-Provincial Section of Udine, have in fact surprised a poacher, in period of general prohibition, while returning from a hunting trip in the lagoon.
A 12 gauge shotgun with juxtaposed barrels was seized from the poacher, numerous ammunition, an acoustic signal used to reproduce the song of birds with relative loudspeakers and a shot down specimen of garganey. The staff of the Latisana Carabinieri radio car intervened in support. In the residence of the suspect, inside two freezers, 12 heads of wild birds were found contained in nylon bags for ready-to-eat food.
During the previous months, numerous surveillance, control and repression activities were carried out in the field of hunting and fowling, controls on animal welfare and on the movement of pets. Thus 15 people were reported to the judicial authorities for poaching and fowling, illegal possession of weapons, stuffed protected fauna and unauthorized means of capture, for mistreatment and trafficking of pets. The high administrative penalties for offenders amount to around 850 euros. Eight hunting rifles were seized, of which five were illegally detained, 8 mist-net type bird nets, laces, bows and other prohibited trapping tools.
