Eugenio Patané and Marietta Tidei, regional councilors of the Democratic Party of Lazio, they explained the details of an amendment they are signatories to and which has to do with hunting. Here is what they both explained: “The Chamber of the Lazio Regional Council approved an amendment to the related to the budget which contains, among other things, the introduction of the so-called selecontrollo, i.e. the selection, control, capture and killing of surplus wildlife. Fundamental in this sense is the change of approach, with wild boar hunting considered no longer and not only in a hunting sense, but as a method of preventing damage.
Another novelty contained in the same amendment is the introduction of the training of selecontrollers, who will be given a qualification with a training certificate from the Lazio Region, which will allow them to deal with selective killing in protected natural areas. It is good to specify that, without prejudice to the prohibition of capturing, killing, damaging and disturbing animal species in protected areas, the regulation governs any killing necessary for the sole purpose of redress ecological imbalances and carried out exclusively by authorized and specialized subjects.
Thanking the commissioner Onorati for the important work done and the contribution offered, both in the Commission and in the Chamber, we express satisfaction for a legislative norm that meets the requests of entrepreneurs, individual farmers and various trade associations: the enormous damage caused by wildlife, in fact, in many cases seriously jeopardizes the very survival of many companies in the sector. The presence of ungulates, however, increasingly widespread also in the streets and inhabited centers, also generates serious risks for the public safety of many citizens ".
